$20 can get you a lot of things,
It can get you a week's worth of lattes at your favorite coffee shop.
$20 can get you a movie ticket, popcorn, and soda.
Your $20 can get you something bigger. More lasting. $20 can get you change in the life of a child born in Haiti.
Here's how it works:
Kids need school. All kids, whether they live in Lee's Summit, St. Louis, or Haiti. But access to school is NOT the same for every child.
Some can't go because they don't have enough money for school.....
Or they don't have the required clothes......
Really? What is this astounding amount of money that will allow some kids to go to school and some remain trapped without hope? Are you ready?
$20. Twenty dollars will buy a uniform for a kid. And yes, it does buy clothes, but it buys so much more.
GO Threads is set up so part of your $20 pays the worker who makes the uniform. Pay........not a handout.............. Dignity...............not dependence.................
GO threads is also set up so part of your $20 goes to orphan care. To feed and house the very least in Haiti.
$20...access to education for a child...job for a parent...basic care for an orphan.
Who knew $20 could get so much change?
Last year, a group of us went to Haiti. We'd heard of the devastation wreaked by the earthquake and we wanted to do something. Here's what happened:
That something to be done was to us. We were changed. We were given eyes to see and ears to hear. We are still trying to wrap our heads and hearts around it, but his much we know:
We have to tell people. We need to tell you what we've seen and what we've heard. We saw a people who have no help from their government. We saw poverty, raw and ruthless. We saw lack of clean water and all its effects. We saw children we believe Jesus would call the least of these.
And yet - we heard hope. In their voices. In their willingness to meet and know and love strangers from far away. And we know we will never be the same.
And now there is this persistent need to do something more. GO Threads is what we believe we've been called to do. And we wanted to invite you to do it with us. Hire someone who doesn't have a job to support their family. Buy school clothes for a kids who wants to go to school. Buy some food for a hungry belly. A job, a uniform, orphan care...that's a lot of change for your $20.
Join us - give $20...tell others...and then do it again. Merci.
