BENEFITING: WOMENS CENTER OF WAKE COUNTY INC
EVENT DATE: Sep 12, 2016
Working to prevent and end homelessness for women and families in Wake County, the Women’s Center of Wake County provides assistance to low-income women and their families in their most desperate and vulnerable moments. Whether they need assistance with securing food, clothing, shelter, medical or mental health services, these women turn to the Women’s Center when they are most in need. Recent years have been difficult for many in our community; however, the plight of homeless or at risk women and their families has never been more urgent. Working together with partner agencies in Wake County, the Women’s Center has adapted to meet increasing needs with fewer resources. Last year the Women’s Center provided more than 1,000 women and children with basic needs services, food, clothing, and shelter. Unfortunately, due to limited resources, we had to turn away more than 500 individuals who were about to be evicted from their homes. The Center placed 43 households, including 21 children, in affordable rental housing last year, but could help only one out of every 30 requests for housing assistance. Through collaboration, partnership and teamwork, the Women’s Center has assisted many of our community’s most vulnerable citizens. We need your partnership to continue this important work. The Women’s Center’s Board of Directors will host its 16th annual fundraiser—THRIVE! An Evening Benefit for the Fight Against Homelessness By sponsoring or donating auction items for this event, you will help the Women’s Center in carrying out its important service to our community.
