BENEFITING: Puente De La Costa Sur
Hi! My name is Hannah. I'm 23, an educator, artist, and seasonally-employed outdoor industry worker currently living in Northern New Hampshire. In the spring of 2017 I'll be thru-hiking all 2,189 miles of the Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Maine to raise money for the Community Resource Center Puente de la Costa Sur.
ABOUT PUENTE: Puente is a community resource center in San Mateo County, California, serving the communities of Pescadero, La Honda, Loma Mar, and San Gregorio. I became familiar with Puente last year when I was living and working as an outdoor science educator in the area. I learned about Puente through conversations with those who work for and benefit from Puente, and through volunteering at some of their "Cafecito" and "Station" nights - where adult english language learners can practice english conversation in a supportive and empowering environment. If you are one of the many people whom I've talked about Puente to, you know what an amazing, community-uplifting organization it is. For those of you who don't yet know, here's a little about Puente and their mission:
"As the region’s only Community Resource Center, Puente serves the San Mateo County South Coast communities of Pescadero, La Honda, Loma Mar, and San Gregorio. Puente both advocates for our communities and leverages resources that foster economic prosperity and security, and that promote individual and community health and wellness. We support local leaders and work together with our neighbors creating solutions for our diverse communities" (source: www.mypuente.org). Without Puente, ~1,500 people in these communities would have limited or no access to health and dental services, legal advice, adult education opportunities, help with emergency financial situations, and many other critical individual, family, and community services.
Puente has always been a cornerstone of community health and wellness in San Mateo County, but their services grow exponentially more important with each day in this new administration. By donating to Puente you are helping sustain a vibrant community resource center working to build and sustain a healthy, safe, and supportive community.
As immigration laws become even more fiercely debated and enforced on the national stage, let's commit to supporting organizations like Puente that are serving the individuals and families most impacted by these policies and actions.

THANK YOU for your time and consideration! I will be updating this page from the trail and the fundraiser will remain open until I reach Katahdin!
ABOUT THE HIKE The Appalachian Trail spans 14 states in the Eastern United States, and is 2,189 miles long. I plan to hike the trail from the southern terminus (Springer Mountain in Georgia) to the northern (Mount Katahdin in Maine). I expect the journey will take approximately 5 months to complete. Although I've never attempted a long-distance hike before, I hope the time I have spent working on backcountry hut and construction crews in New Hampshire's White Mountains has prepared me well for this endeavor.
