I am raising money to fund the search for a cure for Lupus! Your donation could help push me out of a perfectly good airplane on Sept 5th!
Lupus is a chronic autoimmune disease wherein the immune system malfunctions and begins to attack healthy tissue. This could include joints, skin, and/or organs. Since Lupus can attack different parts of the body, symptoms will vary from person to person. In addition, Lupus will have periods when the symptoms are active (called ‘flares’) and periods of less active symptoms (also referred to as quiescent or quiet periods). Because of these factors, Lupus can be very difficult to diagnose. Many patients are misdiagnosed for years before finally getting confirmation that they have this complex disease. Roughly 1,500,000 Americans have been diagnosed with Lupus, yet Lupus is still a mystery and there is currently no cure.
This year, Midwest Freefall is teaming up with Valinda Mitchell and the Leap for Lupus Foundation to help find a cure! I am trying to raise money so that I can make a tandem jump at Midwest Freefall to help stamp out this disease once and for all. This is near and dear to my heart because my sister, Kim, was diagnosed with Lupus in 2012 after 5 years of living with pain and uncertainty, all the while having doctors tell her that there was nothing wrong with her or it was just aches and pains associated with aging. It is time to raise awareness about this disease. It is time to find a cure for this disease once and for all. I am taking a Dive for the Cure in support of my sister…won’t you help me raise money to jump out of a perfectly good airplane for this worthy cause? That first step out of the airplane is a big step, likewise, every dollar put towards researching this disease is a huge step towards finding a cure.
