EVENT DATE: Feb 28, 2013

THE STORY:

Housing Assistance Corporation (HAC) is supporting the making of a documentary surrounding the procedure and the lives of families and individuals who qualify to build a Self-Help home. With your help, the filmmakers will have adequate gas money to travel from site to site, as well as meals to share with the families being interviewed. In return, we will reward you with a prize equal to the amount donated. These rewards range from a surprise from HAC's tool belt, a ticket to the organization's 25th Anniversary Party, and a chance to have dinner with the group of builders that will be interviewed. Get excited!!

HAC's Self-Help program allows for individuals and families to build their own home using ‘sweat equity’ through a low-interest mortgage loan.  With this documentary, the organization will demonstrate to everyone that the desire to own a home is not a classist privilege – wanting a stable home is a goal that links families all across the socioeconomic spectrum.

This movie is important to Henderson County as it will show the personal journeys of each client who builds with us, showcasing the similarities in each story, and reiterating to our community that we all have the same desire for stability and comfort in our lives.

Each of us holds an elaborate, compelling story. We are interested in our clients’. Please help Housing Assistance spread the word about the transformational experience of being a part of a group that helps themselves!
