Dear Family & Friends,

I did it! Last weekend, I participated in the 36th annual Pan Mass Challenge (PMC). I cycled 192 miles in 2 days (Sturbridge, MA to Provincetown, MA) among more than 6,000 cyclists. The PMC is the largest single fund raiser in the country, and 100% of donations go directly to Dana Farber Cancer Institute. For me, the ride started out as a tribute to my Mom (who would have been 80 this year but died of lung cancer at age 62), and her sister/my Aunt Norma (who lost a lengthy battle with breast cancer at age 70). Very quickly, it turned into so much more than that. Here is a great video that sums up the event nicely. I recommend watching it. You will feel good – I promise!

I was fortunate to be a member of the Boston Bruins Foundation team, which added a lot to my experience. We had a team of people committed to making sure the event went smoothly for us so we could focus on safely riding our bikes those 192 miles. Our team was assigned a Pedal Partner, 3 year old Cian Byrne from Beverly, Massachusetts. Cian received treatment at DFCI through its Jimmy Fund and I am happy to say has been cancer free since March. Getting to know Cian and his family over the last few months made the PMC experience even more special. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the Bruins featured a post ride interview with me in an article about the PMC on their website. Here is a link to the article if you are interested in reading it.

I knew that I would enjoy the PMC, but I truly under-estimated how emotional the whole experience would be. I have shed more tears, both happy and sad, throughout the entire process. It has changed my life and will forever be a part of who I am going forward. To those of you that sponsored me on my ride, THANK YOU so much for your support and for being an important part of this experience for me. Nothing, not fund raising nor 192 miles, compares to what our loved ones go through when battling cancer. I am so proud to have participated in the PMC so I could help make a difference.

I can’t wait to ride next year!
