THE STORY:

New Story is school that helps special needs kids. One of those kids is my son, Tommy. Tommy was diagnosed as "on the Autism spectrum" when he was 5. In his own words, up until a year and a half ago, his life was hell. New Story has helped him (and us) turn his story from a nightmarish tragedy, into a Rocky-style comeback.

Another piece of the puzzle for him has been service dogs. I could go on for hours explaining how they’ve helped him, but to sum it all up - they helped make him better.
New Story doesn’t have a service dog program, and Tommy decided at the end of the last school year (Spring 2010) that he wanted to change that. The problem is, a service dog can cost up to $20,000. Tommy didn’t get discouraged. He made posters and put them up on telephone poles asking people to drop off aluminum cans at our house that we could take to the recycling center to earn money to pay for a service dog for the school. To date, he’s raised $143.97 (and at the moment our garage is filled with about another $100 worth of crushed cans). While this is no where near enough yet, it’s a lot of soda cans... Seriously. A lot!

I’m so proud of this kid and the fact that he’s proved all the medical “professionals” and school administrators (that basically wanted to throw him away) wrong.
Please help him fulfill his dream of getting a service dog for New Story.
