My name is Ms. Ann Raheem and I am your child's Middle School Social Studies Teacher and the 6th grade Homeroom Teacher. All the middle school classes are working together to help raise funds for AFA. If each MS class is successful in meeting their overall combined goal then each MS teacher will have $1,000 to spend towards their subject. Read below to see how a $1,000 could benefit our social studies program.
If I had a $1,000 to spend I would like to to get class sets of historical fiction books (at least one title per grade level), so that students can "live" the time period we are learning about through the experiences of the characters in the books. I would also like to purchase historical photo sets so students can see primary source visuals, as well as Readers Theater plays and historical simulation activities.
I would also like to pay for buses for DC field trips so that arranging parent drivers and DC parking does not hold us back from taking more field trips. The places I would like to go are the Islam in America Museum, the National Archives, the White House, the Capitol Building, the Smithsonian American History museum, the Newseum, etc.
Both of these would enhance Social Studies by giving a hands on experience and a different dimension/perspective.
