Our names are Katie and Greg, and this summer we will be completing our first trek/climb for charity. We will be thru-hiking 72.2 miles on the High Sierra Trail in California and finishing our trek with a climb to the summit of Mt. Whitney, the highest mountain in the contiguous United States. For those who know us well, you know how much we both value time spent actively moving through our nation's beautiful landscapes. With our great love for nature also comes worries for the future. We want our great great grandchildren and their generation, along with generations that follow, to have similar opportunities for engaging with the natural world. We want to support programs which are currently helping others experience nature to inspire the next generation of conservationists. We also want to encourage others to reap the many mental and physical benefits of time spent outdoors.
For these reasons, we have chosen to organize a charity trek/climb through Summit for Someone to benefit Big City Mountaineers, a nonprofit organization which organizes wilderness expeditions for underserved adolescents who live in urban environments and would not ordinarily have the opportunity to travel to our nation's beautiful outdoor spaces. We feel that everyone deserves to experience the sound of the wind rushing through the trees on a blustery spring day, the silence of a canyon deep in the heart of the desert, the perspective on life when the world is viewed from the summit of a mountain, and the feeling of burning legs and searing lungs and a spirit filled with the feeling that anything is possible. Our goal is to raise $1,000 to pay for one teen's transformative week-long expedition.
Please consider supporting our charity trek/climb financially if you are able. Every dollar counts, and no donation is too small. Our trip is entirely self-supported with us personally incurring all of the cost associated with the trip, and 100% of the funds donated through this page will directly support the programs at Big City Mountaineers.
