Topaz has over 18 years of experience working with diverse groups of youth and youth-serving professionals. She joins Mundo Verde from Monarch Academy Public Charter School, an Expeditionary Learning school in Glen Burnie, Maryland, where she was a founding administrator and Dean of Student & Family Life for five years. Topaz brings expertise in experiential education models and youth development from her previous roles as trainer and consultant for Play Trust Learn Consulting in D.C., Outward Bound, Inc. and Project Adventure, Inc. in Beverley, Massachusetts. She has also served as Program Manager for Youth Outreach Weekends for The City School in Boston, Massachusetts and was an assistant director for the Fresh Air Fund Camps in Fishkill, New York. Topaz has a bachelor's in sociology from Trinity University, and a master's in gender and cultural studies from Simmons College. She also holds certificates in Advanced Youth Development and Advanced Youth Development Supervision from AED's National BEST Initiative. Topaz is a native Washingtonian, and is excited to provide leadership to advance student and family engagement at Mundo Verde.
