BENEFITING: SECOND CHANCE DOG RESCUE
On February 16th, Second Chance Dog Rescue in Murray, Ky rescued Topper from the Calloway county shelter where this sweet boy was surrendered by him owner because he'd rather walk with him than hunt squirrels. I'm a foster for this rescue, and I immediately fell in love with this English Coonhound's sweet and gentle personality, and brought him home that day. He was a little skinny, but seemed overall healthy. On February 19th we took Topper to his first ever vet appointment to have him neutered and vetted. Everything seemed perfectly fine when we dropped him off, but there was some bad news waiting for us when we picked him up. The surgery went wel, but Topper is positive for Heartworms and Ehrlichiosis. Both almost completely preventable diseases. He is now on antibiotics, and has a long road to recovery. He has to wait 2 weeks to begin heartworm treatment because of the surgery, and will be on treatment for the next month or more depending on how well it takes. Luckily, Topper is in a good quiet foster home for his treatment, but Second Chance could use some help paying for the treatments. They are a 501c3 rescue, and are run completely off of donations and out of the owner's pockets. They have been saving several sick animals in the past 8 months, and their funds are dwindling fast. If you have any extra money, please consider helping this wonderful rescue. Every dollar counts, and every dollar will go to helping the animals!
