EVENT DATE: Nov 14, 2012
Team-up with ABC-FM and raise funds to support two of our stellar scholars and provide an SAT prep course for all six!
Fayetteville-Manlius A Better Chance (ABC) is a local affiliate of the national A Better Chance organization, whose mission is to increase educational opportunities for underrepresented, low-income students of color. FMABC provides six academically promising female scholars the opportunity to thrive in an exceptional educational environment and ultimately gain admittance to some of the most selective colleges in the country.
A BETTER CHANCE POPULATION STATS
- Approximately 46% of A Better Chance Scholars are raised in single-parent families/households.
- In NYC, only approximately 65% of public high school students graduate.
- Only 23% of students graduating from public high school are prepared to begin college or a career.
- More than half of A Better Chance Scholars come from families making less than the national household median income (all $49,445, blacks ($32,068), latinos ($37,759).
ABC-FM SUCCESS: 100 % of FM ABC scholars graduate high school and 99% go on to a four year college. 83% of Alumni reported having earned a Bachelors degree and 50% had a masters or other professional degree.
DID YOU KNOW...NYC has 400 public high schools -- each year, approximately 25,000 students compete for selection into the "best" public schools. Only about 5000 students are placed in those schools. Those who cannot afford to go to private schools do not get access to the quality education opportunities that are afforded to others.
Join us and support ABC-FM Scholars!
