We want to start a church where people’s lives change and they join God in the spiritual and cultural renewal of Toronto.
People loving God, living in community, serving the world
Taking part in the transformation of neighborhoods and communities
Churches started in Toronto and all over the world
WHY START NEW CHURCHES?
First, lets start with a broad understanding of what “city renewal” might look like. History has shown that when renewal happens in cities it is almost always a combination of spiritual revival and societal change. We see three primary institutions in the Bible: the institution of matrimony, the state, and the household of God. Because these institutions are what shape the morals of society then renewal in a city can be tracked by 1) the health of its families, 2) the justice for its people, and 3) the way in which non-Christians understand Christians and their message. The local church is the only organization that is concerned about all three of these matters. There may be organizations that focus on family or on justice or on evangelism, but only the local church makes it its mission to focus on all three.
When new churches are started that care for the Gospel and…
Familes then more broken families are healed
Justice and mercy then more people are motivated to bring about equity and mercy
Evangelism then more people will hear the message of Christ for the first time
Now, the kind of city renewal we’re talking about is what happens when The Kingdom of God breaks into a city. The Kingdom of God is at work in all spaces and is not limited to what typically is considered sacred like places of worship. But only one entity in a city has been designed by God to contain within itself the message of the Kingdom and its King. That entity is the local church. It is a city’s hope of hearing the Gospel proclaimed, but it is also the city’s chance of seeing the Gospel fleshed out.
When the Kingdom of God breaks into a city – new people follow Jesus. And when new people follow Jesus, some churches are revived while other churches are born.
And he who was seated on the throne said, ‘Behold, I am making all things new.’ Also he said, ‘Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.’ (Revelation 21:5 ESV)
