This year we will run or walk one mile for Rhinos. I am so happy we are a team now! Thanks everyone who has joined in. The American Association of Zookeepers (AAZK) Bowling for Rhinos has raised over $6 million dollars for Rhino conservation since 1990. Your donation goes directly to support three wildlife refuges: Lewa Wildlife Conservancy in Kenya, Ujong Kulon National Park in Java, Indonesia, and Bukint Barisan Selatan National Park in Sumatra, Indonesia. These wildlife refuges not only protect black rhinos, white rhinos, Javan rhinos, and Sumatran rhinos, but also everything from orchids, tortoises, giraffe and elephant and the habitat they inhabit. It is due to your generous contributions that many of these animals will survive and be seen in the wild by future generations. One of the things I have always been impressed by over the years is this organization's involvement in not just conservation of endangered species but in community development and responsible conservation tourism. In Lewa, Kenya AAZKs Bowling for Rhinos helped to fund 19 schools, 10 water projects, four clinics, a women's micro-credit programme and many other community projects, improving the lives of many. Two years ago I celebrated reaching 100 plus miles of official race running in one year (this was also my first 10k, half or full marathon, first Dopey, Goofy, Dumbo and Coast to Coast challenges) and ended with a ten mile run for rhinos. This was the first Tortoise Trot for Rhinos. Last year, we became a team and actually heard people yel ling "Go Rhinos" in the streets of Frederick MD. It was a lot of fun thanks to everyone who helped. This will be our third year now and it would be great to have an even larger team. Come join us or show your support by donating to this incredible project. Thanks so much!
