BENEFITING: 3 LITTLE BIRDS 4 LIFE
My true cancer story began 3 years ago. I had just returned from a year-long deployment to Kabul, Afghanistan when my then 4-year-old son was diagnosed with a rare form of childhood cancer, Acute Myeloid Leukemia on March 24, 2010. I moved to Memphis to take care of him for the next 6 months, and we came home on October 1, 2010 with him in remission. I fell in love with the oncology atmosphere, so I decided to become a nurse. I was a newly single mother of two boys, and got into a BSN program, which I still am attending full time. I have just been diagnosed with breast cancer.
