BENEFITING: Starlight Children's Foundation
EVENT DATE: Sep 23, 2012
Hi Colleagues, Friends and Families!
Thanks for visiting our Fundraising Page for PIMCO Australia’s Tough Mudder challenge in Sydney, on September 23rd, 2012.
About Tough Mudder
The Tough Mudder Sydney event is a 20km (12.4mile) obstacle course challenge designed by the British Special Forces to challenge participants’ physical, emotional and mental grit. No two courses are ever the same, and each Tough Mudder challenge has a mystery obstacle awaiting participants.
Of the 28 obstacles on the course, some examples are;
Electroshock Therapy: Sprint through a field of live wires — some carrying as much as 10,000 volts of electric shock.
Everest: A slicked-up quarter-pipe that participants have to sprint up to get over.
Arctic Dunk: A dumpster filled with ice water. Participants have to jump in, dunk under a plank and swim out the other side.
Fire Walker: Plain and simple run through blazing kerosene soaked straw.
On average, only 78% of participants complete a Tough Mudder challenge.
Completing a Tough Mudder challenge is not about long it takes to cross the finish line but rather overcoming obstacles—and fears.
Being a Mudder means putting aside ideas of individual achievement and focusing instead on teamwork and camaraderie.
To further inspire us to complete this “lapse of sanity”, we are raising funds for the Starlight Children’s Foundation.
Starlight provides programs integral to the total care of seriously ill children – while health professionals focus on treating the illness, Starlight is there to lift the spirits of the child, giving them the opportunity to laugh, play and be a child again.
About Starlight Children’s Foundation
The Starlight Children's Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for children with chronic and life-threatening medical conditions. The foundation has chapters and offices located throughout the United States, with the national headquarters located in Los Angeles, California. Internationally, the foundation has offices and affiliates in Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, and Japan.
Starlight Children's Foundation was founded in 1983 by Dynasty star, Emma Samms and Peter Samuelson, and serves thousands of children each month with its programs designed to help seriously ill children and their families. The foundation's "high-tech" and "high-touch" programs are designed to distract children from their pain, help them better understand and manage their illnesses, and connect families with others facing similar challenges to create a community so that no one feels alone. The foundation does this by providing education, entertainment, and family events that help sick children cope with the pain, fear and isolation of prolonged illness.
