BENEFITING: THE BHUTAN FOUNDATION
EVENT DATE: Sep 15, 2014
As some of you may have noticed, I'm in Bhutan. During my stay so far, I've been cycling a lot. So much in fact, I have convinced myself that I can complete the insanely difficult, 268km Tour of the Dragon race on Sept. 6th. For further motivation up the final climb, other than saving my pride, I have decided to try and raise some money for a worthy cause. Here's the link to the Bhutan Foundation (the worthy cause) and the race website:
There are two reasons why you may be tempted to donate. First, there is the comfort in knowing that your donation will go directly to an excellent non-profit organization, The Bhutan Foundation. They primarily work on strategies of conservation of the environment, equitable and sustainable development, good governance, and preservation of culture in Bhutan. Their work and vision are very closely aligned with the projects I've been working on with the UNDP.
The second reason you may want to donate is for the perverse joy of knowing I'll be cycling for an excruciating 268km, probably for over 14 hours, in a single day. Not on a flat road either. From Bumthang to Thimphu, the race route crosses four mountain passes with the equivalent elevation gain of 90% of Mt. Everest. Yes, that's right, I'm going to try cycling up 90% of Mt. Everest in a single day, often on muddy roads.
I am humbly hoping to raise $1000 in the next two weeks before race day. I look forward to spamming your email, facebook, twitter, tinder and anything else I can reach you at to remind you of this worthy cause.
Thanks very much in advance,
