BENEFITING: THINK PINK ROCKS
ORGANIZER: THINK PINK ROCKS
EVENT: NYC Half 2013
EVENT DATE: Mar 17, 2013
Dear Friends and Family,
THINK PINK ROCKS is a non-profit organization whose mission is to raise awareness about early detection of and genetic testing for breast cancer and to provide funding for screening, treatment and research.
All money raised for Think Pink Rocks from the NYC Half 2013 will benefit breast cancer research at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City.
On a personal note, I chose to support Think Pink Rocks because my family has been profoundly touched by breast cancer. My grandmother passed away from breast cancer while in her mid-50s. My aunt died of ovarian cancer (a related disease) in her mid-50s as well. As a result of their illnesses, I sought genetic counseling at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and in 2010 I discovered that I am a BRCA1 carrier. Women like me who test positive for a BRCA1 mutation are at a significantly increased risk of developing breast and ovarian cancer. But knowledge is indeed power and since the discovery of my BRCA status, I have received excellent medical care and counseling from Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. I plan to remain healthy, cancer-free and running races for many years to come!
If you would like additional information about BRCA and hereditary breast and ovarian cancer, please do not hesitate to email me separately at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Thank you very much for your support for this important charity and happy running!
