On Saturday, September 10th, I am planning to do 108 Sun Salutations in 2 hours at the Park Slope Armory YMCA in support of the YMCA's Strong Kids Campaign.
The Strong Kids Campaign is an annual fundraising initiative that works to raise money to support the YMCA's programs and provide financial assistance to those in need, while creating awareness of the demand for services in our neighborhood. Every dollar counts.
****100% of the tax-deductible contributions made through the Strong Kids Campaign directly supports Y programs and membership needs. *****
Each year the YMCA serves almost 35,000 community members, 12,000 being youth and teens, by providing quality programs that build spirit, mind and body.
Its free Y Afterschool, located at 11 off-sites spanning from Park Slope to Coney Island, provides care and educational assistance for over 900 youth and teens; 50% of more than 600 summer campers enroll for free or on financial assistance and all special needs campers participate at half of the program cost; the New Americans Welcome Center is a safe haven for immigrants and supports over 2,000 enrollments in our language, literacy and citizenship classes each year completely free of charge. The YMCA has been able to provide assistance to hundreds of members in financial crisis and are excited to launch its new Teen Center this year located at our annex, the Park Slope Armory YMCA.
Without the support of the community through the Strong Kids Campaign none of this would be possible. We hope that you'll commit to helping your neighbor by contributing to the Strong Kids Campaign. We’re stronger when we work together.
