As many of you know, my sister was diagnosed with Stage III Breast Cancer in May 2014. She completed that treatment in January of this year and was in remission. Just 11 months later, in November of 2015 she started having pain in her left hip. What we all feared became a harsh reality when the test results came back that the cancer had indeed spread. She is now diagnosed with Stage IV Metastatic Breast Cancer. This is currently a diagnosis with no cure. It will show face again, when & where are the unanswered questions (well, we have many but...) The doctors tell us this diagnosis is now treated much like a chronic disease (diabetes for example). There are many layers to this but to be brief - she has been placed on several new medications - a monthly IV drip, a monthly injection, a pill she takes 3 weeks on, 1 week off - this one she may take the rest of her life if her body tolerates it (kind of like a chemo), but it can have some pretty big side effects so she need a lot of blood work to monitor. Along with these meds, she will be undergoing radiation therapy on her hip. She will be having a hysterectomy in 2016 along with PET scans every 3 months to make sure nowhere else is showing cancer. This is what we know as of today, who knows what may come up along the way, lets pray nothing more.
So to get to the fundraising part - Her current insurance policy has a $6,300 deductible. Let's come together and pay this for her! No one should ever have to worry about how they are going to pay their medical bills when they are fighting for their life! On top of this deductible, all treatment and monitoring are being done in Rochester, which is an hour and a half drive one way, any funds raised beyond her deductible will go towards gas and maintenance of her car. Thank you in advance from the bottom of our hearts.
