BENEFITING: The V Foundation
EVENT DATE: Nov 06, 2016
Ever since living in NYC, I've had a love for Marathon weekend. In 2009, Zack ran the NYC Marathon and I was there - 9 months pregnant with Miller - to see him cross the finish line.
I've applied for the lottery 3 times and never been selected for entry. So this year I've decided to take this opportunity and commit that 2016 is the year of the marathon. And I'm going to be able to raise funds for an amazing group, The V Foundation.
As you may be aware, the V Foundation was founded by ESPN and former award-winning NC State basketball coach Jim Valvano. Coach Valvano was diagnosed with cancer in 1993. When he created the Foundation, he knew that it was too late for research to save him. But he spent his last months alive creating a legacy of hope for others diagnosed with this debilitating disease.
In the past 22 years, The V Foundation has awarded more than $150 million to cancer research and related programs nationwide. One thing I love about their organization is 100% of direct donations go to fund cancer research, as they have an endowment which covers their operating expenses.
I hope you will consider joining me in supporting this great effort as I know we've all been impacted by cancer in some way. I will certainly be thinking of Jimmy V's famous words as I tackle the 26.2 miles - "Don't Give Up, Don't Ever Give Up!"
Thanks for your support!
