I want to take the time to thank everyone for donating to NCBA. This was truly an awesome experience. The amount of support that I received was amazing. Thank you to all my sponsors, local businesses, business owners and the Clot Busters Racing Team. I could not have made my goal of 3k without you guys and to raise $4,150 was a great way to show what Youngstown is all about.
I’m proud to say that I’ve finished a marathon especially 9 months ago, having a blood clot and not being able to walk without getting out of breath. It was truly an accomplishment for me and I could not have done it without your support. I made it through 13.1 miles at a great pace and I felt strong. I remember running in a group of people for the first half marathon and then they all disappeared, “they were the smart ones running a half marathon.” Miles 13 through 20 were easy and I even picked up the pace. Miles 21 and 22 I felt unstoppable, strong and felt like I could run forever. I thanked God for giving me the ability to run that far and not stopping. Mile 23 hit me like a ton of bricks literally. My legs felt like cinder blocks were strapped to my thighs. Every step was painful and I was cramping bad. I could not stop and I knew if I did, it would be even worse. I lowered my head and knew it was going to be war from that point forward. I knew that my mind was telling me to give up by my body could keep going, so I did. I was in pain for the majority of mile 23.
I will never forget as I’m about to hit the 26 mile mark, coming down a hill into downtown Columbus, hearing my wife, brother in law, sister and my cousins screaming my name at the top of their lungs. I felt my eyes tearing up and goose bumps were covering my arms. I was almost there. I finally had the finish line in sight and all I could think of is, “I did it!” I ran the race of my dreams, I did not stop and fought through the pain. I ran for everyone including my family that faces the challenges of blood clots and blood clotting disorders. I hope that one day my daughters will look at this and realize that they can do anything.
I’m looking forward to continue blood clot awareness and run for those who are unable or who have passed due to blood clots. I am already considering running another marathon and I will represent the polka dot Clot Buster Racing team again. Thank you again for your love and support.
