THE STORY:

Tracy Verrastro wrote -

When asked, why do I race ... I had a hard time with that question. I race because my mom is a survivor (she beat the breast cancer but the Dr said the chemo was too much for her body and she died of acute Lukemia in 2008). I race for all of the other people who are affected by breast cancer. This event is such an important event to me ... The sea of pink survivors in the survivor parade is enough to make anyone wish there was more they could do to help. More people are surviving now thanks to events like this. I also race for myself. I battle a list of my own illnesses, from gynocological to autoimmune, tons of injuries from trying to work out, and my ongoing battle with obesity that I can honestly say is only half my fault and I know it raises my chances of getting breast cancer which scares the hell out of me.  2 years ago I ran, I came in ONE from last (im not sure who came in last but she must have decided to walk because it took me about an hour to get across the finish line). The feeling of coming across and the people there cheering me on (an HOUR LATER) felt so good. I had NEVER run a race before. Last year I was to ill and injured to race, and I was very down about it, but volunteered and took part in the event in my own way. Scott bought me a pair of pink NB laces and told me they were inspiration to get to race next year. Well next year is almost here, Ive gained about 30 pounds and I am suffering from a whole host of issues worst than last year. Then I got this email asking if I was joining this year and decided that starting today I will do nothing but care for myself, get moving, get training, get healthy and run this race. It may take time to get across the finish, but I will do it! Hold me to it :) I will volunteer up until race time then I will be in that line. Will you be there with me? If not - maybe you can become a team member by donating, or collecting donations on my behalf. Show me how many of you are behind me and believe I can get there. (Tears literally roll down my face as I type, this means alot to me) Thank you in advance for your help, whether it be a donation, collecting donations, or cheering me on at that finish line. I love you all.
