BENEFITING: TRAGEDY ASSISTANCE PROGRAM FOR SURVIVORS
ORGANIZER: TRAGEDY ASSISTANCE PROGRAM FOR SURVIVORS
The Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS) offers compassionate care to all those grieving the death of a loved one serving in our Armed Forces.
As a spouse of an active duty Marine, I have witnessed far too many families directly impacted by service members paying the ultimate sacrifice.
On December 27, 2016 my husband, GySgt. Dawson, escorted fallen marine, Cpl. Devon Strout, home one last time. We sat with the grieving family sharing tears, laughter, and silence. Devon’s mother expressed that TAPS had been the first organization to reach out to their family.
In his all too brief 19 years, Devon touched the lives of countless individuals. As I reflect back on those first few days that seemed like a blur, I recall the outpouring of love and support. Slowly, I witnessed a sense of security overcome the entire Strout family as they faced the unfathomable. They knew they weren’t alone. TAPS has continued to shower the family with support and resources to help with the loss of their son, brother, nephew, grandson, and friend.
Knowing that there are organizations like TAPS to assist families and friends is the driving force behind my “why”. I am proud and eager to give back to an organization that gives so much. Cpl. Strout's family is just one of many that I know TAPS has assisted. Over the next few weeks and months I will share stories of support that TAPS has offered.
I humbly ask you to donate. 100% of your donation goes to TAPS and in turn, it will help a family suffering the loss of a loved one.
Tomorrow is never promised.
With much love and respect,
