BENEFITING: TRAIN 4 AUTISM
ORGANIZER: TRAIN 4 AUTISM
EVENT DATE: Oct 09, 2016
This is for my brother David, and for everyone at Reid's Gift and Kindling Studios.
For those who know me, you know this isn't my first time asking for money for this charity. I love Train 4 Autism.
Consider a donation to this cause. It is a beautiful one.
October 9, 2016 my friend Christine is going to run on my behalf. She is a wonderful and beautiful person who agreed to take my place for this race. It is her first half marathon and I know she's going to be amazing. A little background on why she's taking my place... I was victim to a driver basically not paying attention who struck my car and totaled it. Unfortunately there are some spinal injuries involved with this accident and I am unable to run this event, my running career is on hiatus - but I am excited to get back to it once healed. This would have been such an honor, my 12th half marathon and my 4th (or 5th??) time fundraising for T4A. Things happen, and life is fleeting. I am very happy to be able to still help this cause and give this opportunity to an awesome runner that deserves it. So incredibly grateful for Christine and her eagerness to take this on, she's going to rock it. Thank you Christine! xoxo
My connection to T4A
My youngest brother David was diagnosed with autism. He is the reason I initially became interested and involved in helping those on the spectrum. These last few years I have begun to become more involved with this community, of course with my brother in my heart but also for the so many I've come to get to know and love. I am working hard to be more proactive for this cause; I want to continue running for autism and will continue to do my best in helping and aiding those I can. In the meantime, help me help them if you are willing and able to do so.
I love the T4A tech shirts. On the back it states: "I love someone with autism." To me that used to mean just David. I love my little brother so much. But with all the new things I have been doing with this community, I have just met so many incredible individuals on the spectrum that I am proud to say I have gotten to know. Many have been those involved with Reid's Gift, a program that promotes independence and higher quality of life for adults with developmental disabilities.
I kind of wish I could change the wording on my shirt a little... from "someone" to "I love so many with autism."
Thank you so much!
(A little about T4A below...)
Train 4 Autism is a registered 501c3 non-profit that was started by parents, not athletes. Our mission is to support and empower parents and children touched by the disorder by involvement in endurance sport.
What is Autism? Autism is a devastating neurological and biological disorder that typically affects children between the ages in 18 months to five years of age. Autism currently affects 1 in every 110 children today. It is estimated there are over 1 million people in the United States alone with autism. Autism affects each individual differently and at different levels of severity. Some people with autism are severely affected, cannot speak, require constant one-on-one care, and are never able to live independently. While others who have less severe symptoms, can communicate, and eventually acquire the necessary skills to live on their own.
