BENEFITING: THE LAVENDER CLINIC
I started The Lavender Clinic to help serve my communities healthcare needs. As having been through our healthcare system both as a patient and now as a physician, transgender health still continues to be avoided and not even taught in medical schools or residency programs. This leads our community alone in terms of health and we are frequently turned away from medical offices, or are mistreated and laughed at in medical offices or mismanaged medically due to poor medical training. Going to the doctors for any health reason regardless of severity is challenging to say the least and most avoid going altogether or end up in the ER. In regards to seeking the medical community for hormone services and surgeries, most go to the black market. This has to stop. We ALL deserve to live healthy, full lives and to be treated with dignity and compassion.
The Lavender Clinic's mission is to provide all access medical and behavioral healthcare to the Transgender and LGBQ communities throughout all of Hawaii and the Pacific Rim (Guam, Tonga, American Samoa, etc). Our services for the Transgender community reaches all ages, not just adults. We are the ONLY clinic in the State of Hawaii devoted to serving the Transgender community.
We work at creating a comfortable, safe, and comprehensive medical home base to help give the transgender community equal access to healthcare in a supportive environment. We also teach and train other clinics and providers how to create safe spaces for the Transgender community as they deserve to have all their healthcare needs acre for. We have very low cash rates, as well as donate services and supplies, in order to make our services available to all the community regardless of income status. We are also trying to expand to add satellite clinic locations on different islands to reach more of the community.
The Lavender Clinic provides hormone therapy, counseling services, support/community groups, healthcare training for healthcare professional, preventative HIV services (PrEP and PEP) and comprehensive primary care.
