BENEFITING: Transportation Alternatives, Inc.
ORGANIZER: Transportation Alternatives, Inc.
Last year, I set a goal of running the New York City Marathon in support of Transportation Alternatives. The marathon is my favorite day of the year and TA is my favorite organziation in New York, so it was a natural fit. While I exceeded last year's fundraising goal, there was one thing I didn't get to do. Unfortunately, about 9 weeks before the marathon I developed a stress fracture in my femural neck. (Google it. It's not good.)
Needless to say, I was beyond disappointed. My marathon dreams were over and I spent nearly 11 weeks on crutches and many months in physical therapy before I was able to go out for a run again.
Now, more than a year after that setback, I'm ready to run. I've followed a regular schedule of PT, runs, and strength training. If all goes well in the coming few weeks -- knock on wood -- I'll be on track to finish the marathon as a member of Team TA.
Your support will go toward a cause that's near and dear to my heart: safe streets for all New Yorkers. No day brings out the best in New York like the marathon, in part because of the connection the race has to streets in every borough. It's a day of people coming out to connect with each other and the world, and they do it by rubbing shoulders with each other on our most important shared space: streets and sidewalks.
I hope you'll consider making a donation to support my run. If you donated last year, thank you! If you're donating for the first time this year, thank you. And even if all you can do is just send positive thoughts my way, thank you!
