BENEFITING: Transportation Alternatives, Inc.
ORGANIZER: Transportation Alternatives, Inc.
We are all pedestrains in NYC, this is one major commonality that we all have as New Yorkers. Have you or anyone you've known been seriously injured or killed in a traffic crash as a pedestrian, cyclist, or vehicle commuter? If not, you are fortunate. A New Yorker is killed in a crash every 33 hours.
This Novemeber, I'll be running my first NYC Marathon on behalf of Transportation Alternatives. Throughout my 6 years of living in NYC, I have become good friends with several individuals who have lost loved ones or have been seriously injured due to a traffic crash as a pedestrian or as a cyclist. As you can imagine, the reality of this type of horrific event is heart wrenching. I commute around the city on my bike and am a pedestrian every single day (as most of us are), I have encountered several close calls myself. I am happy to say that Transportation Alternatives has an unrivaled impact on our New York City’s streets and sidewalks.
This is why I stand with Transportation Alternatives.
When you donate to Transportation Alternatives you are investing in making NYC safer for you, your children, your family, friends, and loved ones. Please help me to make NYC a safer and more enjoyable place for all New Yorkers to walk, bike, and live. - Leslie

Transportation Alternatives has been New York City's #1 advocate for biking, walking, and public transit for 44 years. Our goal? To reclaim New York City streets from the car, and make streets safer, more sustainable, and more equitable for all.
Cyclists, runners, and street users from all walks of life make up our team - people just like you who run these city streets each and every day, who want better public space for everyone.
Some of our team members are running in honor of a friend or family member lost to traffic violence. This is an issue TransAlt is championing with our advocation for Vision Zero - the goal of eliminating death and serious injury as a result of car crashes from NYC by 2024.
Together with our members and partners, we have achieved so much, including the introduction of:
- Protected bike lanes
- Citi Bike bike share program
- Select bus service
- Pedestrian plazas and safety measures
- Life saving 25 MPH speed limit
- Vision Zero program
- Speed safety cameras
- and much more to our beautiful city.
We are so grateful to all of our many stakeholders and members that have helped us succeed and make NYC an even greater place.
If you want to make a difference too, please consider donating to one of our team members campaigns!
And, if you donate $50 or more, you will get a year long membership to TransAlt in return, not to mention, safer city streets for all.
