Trauma training to impact student lives
Organized by: phaedra christou
I am a special education teacher in a high school in Wisconsin. This year I have become involved in learning about brain development and trauma and how it impacts students and learning. I have attended two trainings that have touched on the basis and need for trauma sensitive schools. If anyone has ever seen the movie "Paper Tigers" you will understand why I feel, as a teacher, that understanding and knowing how to work with students in trauma is so needed. There is a training coming up and I would love to attend but it is $2,500. With school budgets the way they are and as I am a teacher who also doesn't have the financial resources I am reaching out for help. Have you ever felt that you were meant to do something in life and not know what it is until that day when you read a book, or attend a training. Well, this is it. I was meant to help students struggling, not knowing how to handle everyday life. Students that can do well in school but the trauma they have been through is the only thing holding them back. I want our school to move towards becoming a trauma sensitive school, and it will...eventually. I want to speed up the process and begin the healing process. This training will enable me to train every teacher in the school...and then some. Please help me accomplish this.
