I wanted to again thank everyone who has contributed to my trip so far! Although not all of my contributions from family have been through crowdrise, See More

EVENT DATE Jul 17, 2016

THE STORY:

Update (April 9): I thought people may be interested to know what type of research is being presented at this conference.

My particular research has been done in the lab of Dr. Michael Toglia (University of North Florida) and we look at different types of false memory effects in humans. We have been using creative manipulations of well known paradigms in this field (DRM lists, for example) to better understand these phenomena. For this work, we have also been fortunate to begin a collaboration with Dr. Castillo of Florida Hospital (Orlando) to include magnetoencephalography (MEG) data that is able to look at the biological underpinnings. MEG technology is considered functional brain imaging because it allows us to see the brain in real time. It uses changing magnetic fields to determine the electrical currents that occur within the brain.

**In order for me to get to Budapest, I will need to raise some money for the trip. I will be applying for the few scholarships that are available to me, but it would also really help me if friends and family would chip in whatever they can spare :) I estimate that the plane travel itself will cost at MINIMUM $1000 dollars round trip, plus another $270 dollars in conference fees, and that does not include any other accommodations, meals, etc. **

More info below (and research information):

Hi Everyone,

For those of you who don't know me, my name's Natasha and I am a college student that has been working to put myself through school for the past 4 years. I am graduating later this year after completing the requirements for two degrees, working multiple jobs, and volunteering in several research areas. I have sacrificed a lot of money, energy, and tears to make my academic dreams come to fruition over the years.

I am now fortunate enough that some of the research I am involved with at the University of North Florida has been selected to be presented at the International Conference on Memory in Budapest, Hungary this July! It is a very exciting opportunity and I will get the chance to meet many of the professionals in my future field, make connections, and learn about the exciting world of research awaiting me in graduate school -- in addition to sharing what I have been working on.

With graduate school applications coming up (each with application fees), GRE testing, and all of life's other little expenses, it would help me significantly no matter what you decide to contribute. For more information about the conference: http://www.icom2016.com
