THE STORY:

My name is David, I am 33 and a film producer from Kenya. In early 2012, My mother collapsed and fell in her bedroom due to high blood pressure. Due to lack of emergency response facilities, it took almost 3 hours for her to be attended by a doctor. Upon review by the doctor, she was found to have torn a vein due to the blood pressure but the district hospital could not do anything more than the review. The doctor referred her to a better medical facility 3 hours drive away in another town. Again, there were no stand by ambulances nor air support to transport her to Eldoret Town, where the referral hospital was.It took a further 3 hours to get an ambulance which could not leave without being paid all the charges . all this time my dear mother was suffering silently on a bed. The rickety ambulance made its way to Eldoret and by the time the doctors attended to her, she was immediately admitted to the ICU. Scans showed that she had blood spluttered all over her brain and due to the almost 16 hours it had taken her to receive treatment, the blood had clotted on her brain. Surgery was required to try and clean the brain( I dont know the medical terms used for this) but the doctor warned us that even if she did recover from this, she would have been rain damaged. My dear mother passed on 12 hour later in her ICU bed and it was the most painful death yet. Her death was termed as death due to Brain Aneurysm. Because she didn't have to die. The lack of emergency facilities and affordable CT Scan facilities in our home town and across Africa is to blame for her death. Expecting elected leaders to champion for the facilitation of these important facilities is almost futile as Brain Aneurysm is not yet admitted among many as a leading killer. I know I cant do much to change the past or to afford the millions of dollars id need to create awareness about this killer. But High Blood pressure and all its associated killer conditions need to be fought at all cost. I have thought hard and came up with a solution that may go a long way to help fight this condition. I have grown in my seedling nursery over 100,000 trees , (Grevillea and Eucalyptus Grandis type) of which I intend to plant for two reasons... a)Lumber purposes to fund a Brain Aneurysm Awareness Center and Emergency Response service in my hometown and the larger Africa and b)Conservation of our environment to combat global warming and its effects. Lumbering the tress for commercial purposes may net the initiative approximately USD 17,848,386.00 This figure can only be realized after 6 years of maturity as the tree type allows for fast harvest. I am seeking USD 40,000 to lease land for the planting of the seedlings and general maintenance of the project. The purchase title and documents shall belong to the Brain Aneurysm Awareness Center Kenya and every donor shall form the initial trustees of the organization. All material and intellectual support shall be highly appreciated to see this initiative take off. Thankyou
