Tressa's trip to Headache & Neurological Institute in AA
Organized by: Tressa Alvarado
EVENT DATE Oct 19, 2015
I have been suffering from severe chronic migraines since August 2013, just 3 months after my son was born. I have undergone a variety of tests to try to find the source of the migraines with no success.
This past year I have been working with the best neurologist in my area, and he also has not been able to pin point the cause of my chronic migraines. He has now referred me to the Michigan Headache & Neurological Institute in Ann Arbor.
This is a 1100 mile round trip for me with my two year old. My appointment is in mid-October, so I need to be able to pull the money together before that time. Because of the short notice, I don't have the money for the trip, which includes the car rental to get down, gas, food, and other expenses.
Here is the link to the website of the institute where I will be going: http://www.mhni.com/ They will work with a variety of specialists that will do an in depth study on my migraines and will focus on searching for the cause of my issues. They are going to start with a full day examination and go from there to decide what steps need to be taken next.
I want my life back. I want to enjoy my time with my son and remember this important time as he is growing up so fast. I am often spending days on the couch in pain, feeling sick, and I don't want to continue this way.
Any help and of course prayers are appreciated. Thank you!
UPDATE: I talked to the RN From the Michigan Headache & Neurological Institute today. She said that my visit will be a full day visit, 8am-5pm. During that time, they will be doing a variety of tests, such as an EEG, testing spinal fluid, brain scans, etc. Then, they will determine what the treatment will be. They said, normally, at that point they send people home and allow them to do their treatment in their home town and then return to Ann Arbor for a follow up visit in a month to record progress. My husband and I have talked and are thinking depending on what sort of treatment they want me to do, I may end up just staying downstate to do the treatment. The reason is, I am very tired of working with the medical system in my area. I think I will get much better treatment near Ann Arbor. So, we will see what happens. At a minimum, I will only be there for a long weekend, but it could be much longer.
