Help Trevor Get Back On His Feet
Organized by: Tyler David
EVENT DATE Aug 15, 2014
To all my friends and family I would like to take a moment to share with you a short story. The other day I met a man named Trevor, Trevor was standing on a corner by the McDonalds on Frank Loyld Wright and Pima 101. It was a 110 degrees out and he was holding a sign asking for food not money just something to eat, I pulled over and told him to meet me in McDonalds and I would buy him some lunch. Trevor was content and so thankful for me buying him lunch I told him he could order whatever he wanted and as much food as he wanted, I was surprised when he asked the young lady working the counter for the cheapest thing on the menu, a $1 burger..... He told me that I changed his day and it had been a while since he last ate, I could tell he looked like he needed to gain 20 pounds or so... I told the lady to get two of the biggest burgers on the menu fries and a shake for him, after I payed he looked at me and shook my hand said god bless and broke down in tears. I gave him a few bucks and said stay safe and God bless. I continued on my day running around Scottsdale doing errands and such, a few hours passed and I could not get Trevor out of my mind, my family has helped our best to help the homeless and those down on their luck for years as my mom is involved with homeless shelters and domestic violence shelters, but anyways Trevor was different than any person I have ever met who is down on their luck, in his eyes I could tell he wants his life to change in a positive way. So after thinking about this young man for hours I decided to drive back and try to find him, after searching for an hour I found him tucked back in a corner trying to get cover from the pouring rain, I spoke with him briefly and asked him if he would like to talk to me and tell me his story and dinner would be on me. We spoke and he told me he has been on the streets for a few months now he use to work construction and got laid off and couldn't find work and had bills to pay and eventually just ran out of money and had no where to go. We talked about a lot of things I won't go to into detail with but the bottom line I found out Trevor is just a hardworking guy who unlike many people I know got "dealt a bad hand" he is currently searching for a job and trying to get back on his feet, he just told me he needs a helping hand and it's so hard to find one. I told Trevor I would like to help him because I think I have the power to change his life and help him turn his life around. My plan is to pay for one months rent at an extended stay hotel, take him to get clothes to be presentable for job interviews, and to give him the essentials to be confident and feel proud of himself as he should be. My reasoning for posting this story on Facebook is because I believe Trevor has a window of opportunity to change his life back to what was once his normal life just like yours and mine. I know all of the people viewing this are kind hearted and generous people to those who need it most, I ask if some of you have a free moment and could write a short letter of encouragement to Trevor I know he would truly appreciate it and it would be a huge confidence booster. Financially I will be providing the funds for Trevor however if anyone would be generous to help me out that would be amazing and I would be extremely grateful.
Trevor and I have talked a few times when he has a chance to get by a pay phone and we are going to get the ball rolling on August 15th if anyone has contacts for jobs hiring in landscaping, concrete cutting, construction (what Trevor did before) or anything else you think would be a great fit please contact me or if anyone has gently used clothing men's size large for shirts and size 30-32 pants It would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you to everyone for taking the time to read this, have an excellent day!
