BENEFITING: Crohn's & Colitis Foundation
EVENT DATE: Aug 13, 2016
Dear friends and family, please consider a gift of support to Team Challenge for The Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America.
Four years ago, I was diagnosed with severe ulcerative colitis. UC has taken over and consumed my life. After being sick for some time, many visits to doctors, specialist, many tests and a colonoscopy my diagnosis was finally confirmed. Everyday activities started to become difficult. Extreme fatigue and pain was making a work day impossible. The weight loss and twenty trips to the bathroom a day didn't leave much time for anything else. After many attempts of numerous medications, diets and infusions failed I was referred to a specialist at Cleveland Clinic. It was there I learned that my diseased colon must be removed. I was scheduled for a series of three surgeries in which my entire colon was removed and I had an ileostomy bag, an internal J pouch was made from my small intestines, and my ileostomy was reversed and my J pouch connected.I had my entire colon removed and a J-Pouch formed in place of it.
Girl Best Friend Triathlon
During this difficult time I have learned so many things and have met so many wonderful people. I even belong to a J-pouch support group on Facebook. Many days are still difficult, but along with rough days come some good days and I try and take advantage of these good days. With my good days I have accepted The Team Challenge thru the CCFA. So along with my twin sister and my daughter, I am trying to raise money for anyone who suffers from this horrible disease. We are riding, running, and swimming a Triathlon for anyone who can't. We are "tri-ing" for a cure. Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn's Disease both affect 1.6 million Americans. These diseases can be treated but not cured. We want to help change that! Our goal is to raise $1,000.00 for The Crohn's and Colitis Foundation so they can find a cure! Tri your guts out with us and help raise money to Tri and find a cure.
Thank you in advance for your donation and support. Please follow us on Facebook and Instagram to see how are training is going.
