Trip to El Salvador: Free the 17
Organized by: Lily Ibarra
CIS (Centro de Intercambio y Solidaridad)
August 16, 2016
As many of you may know, I am a Spanish professor at Dominican University, but I also consider myself a social activist. My activism begins in the classroom but is not limited to those walls. Some of you may know that back in the summer of 2012 I worked as Co-Director of a study-abroad program to El Salvador on Human Rights, Gender, and Globalization. Our host in El Salvador, CIS (Centro de Intercambio y Solidaridad) back in 2012 is now organizing an American delegation to travel to El Salvador and advocate for Salvadoran women's rights. You may not know that Salvadoran women are charged with murder and sentenced to 40 yrs in prison for miscarriages and stillbirths. Our delegation will take part in several social actions in favor of women's rights and to help free 17 women who have been incarcerated for this reason. My trip will take place from September 18-25, 2016. If this cause resonates with you and you would like to stand with these women, please help fund my trip and make me a delegate for this cause. I will proudly represent you and accompany the CIS and stand in favor of all Salvadoran women's rights. Any little bit will help. Also, if you were planning on giving me a birthday gift or Christmas gift this year, instead help me stand with these women...that will be the best gift you can give!
