SAN CLEMENTE YOUTH RUGBY wrote -
I am delighted that we will finally be playing rugby in San Clemente as part of the Southern Californian Youth Rugby (SCYR) High school league. This will open up great opportunities for our athletes to compete against some of the best high schools in the country. What started as a vision to bring rugby to San Clemente has grown into a first class opportunity for high school age athletes to further their progression in this wonderful sport and in life through the growing number of college scholarships available.
San Clemente started its first youth rugby program in early 2004 at Concordia Elementary School’s YMCA After School Program as a pilot program to introduce rugby to youth in the area. Since then, the San Clemente Gators Youth Rugby program has had great success, with players now playing rugby at the national level competing for the United States, and multiple universities across the nation and overseas. As we move into the year of the 2016 summer Olympics, rugby will again be a competitive medal sport. Our goal has always been to improve the level of rugby play by grass roots efforts of coaching the sport and the ethics that go along with it. Winning was never our goal, but it has come naturally over time through the dedication of coaches and players alike who simply like to be a part of this sport that encompasses off field behavior as much as on field play.
RUGBY IS THE FASTEST GROWING SPORT IN THE U.S.
So Cal High School Rugby is on schedule to become a CIF sport in 2018. The Triton Rugby program will ready San Clemente High School attendees for that level of competition.
We need the help of the local community and San Clemente High School alumni to support the start-up costs for this program. This is the focus of this fundraising page. The funds raised will be use to pay for the team playing kits (home and away), pay for the practice equipment, pay for practice fields, pay for high school field use allocation, and pay for many other club administration and non-recurring start-up costs. Note, all of the coaching and administration staff for the Triton Rugby program are volunteers.
We appreciate any donation. Go Triton Rugby!
