Did you know that more people on Earth have mobile phones than have toilets? Your donation will have a significant and lasting impact on the health of people in the extremely remote community of Sungdel in Eastern Nepal. This area is one of the most difficult to access communities in Nepal, and fewer than one in five homes has a sanitary toilet. Helping us support community members as they construct their own toilets will curb the spread of deadly diseases, for which there are no local health facilities or treatment available. Your support will have a lasting impact on everyone in Sungdel for generations to come!
Sungdel has decided that sanitation is most important to them now, and has approached the dZi Foundation for support. Building safe, sanitary and durable toilet infrastructure is not as easy or cheap as it may seem (see slideshow for details!). Each toilet we design costs $200 to build; this cost includes engineering, training and materials. However, each household will match your donation with their own contribution worth over $400 – as valued in local materials such as stone and wood, and weeks of labor constructing the actual toilet itself. This immense amount of investment shows how motivated the residents of Sungdel really are to make this project a success. All we need is your help.
Your donation of $100 will go directly toward building one toilet for one household, or about six people, in an ongoing effort to make Sungdel a healthy and open-defecation free community for families to live and thrive in. Your donation will be matched by existing funds already raised by the dZi Foundation from other donors, as well as the local contribution mentioned above. When all added together, your donation will be matched three-fold and have triple the impact in the community!
Our goal for this Crowdrise effort is to raise $10,000; these funds will build 100 toilets and directly improve the lives of 600 people in remote Nepal!
dZi Foundation is a unique development organization that partners directly with remote communities in Nepal, to bring about a holistic prosperity while providing them with the skills and knowledge to do so themselves.
