Hello and welcome to our fundraising page!
We are Holly Hills Brownie Troop 10365, located in Los Angeles, California.
Did you know that every night more than 6,000 children are homeless in Los Angeles County, however there is only shelter for 10% of them?* And, did you know that children experiencing homelessness are four times more likely to show delayed development, twice as likely to have learning disabilities, and have three times the rate of emotional and behavioral problems compared to children who are not homeless? They are sick at four times the rate of other children, and are twice as likely to go hungry, and less than 1 in 4 homeless children graduate from high school.**
These are truly tragic statistics.
We are deeply saddened by the plight of families and, especially, our peers experiencing homelessness. And so, our troop has decided to adopt an apartment at Upward Bound House's Family Place, a transitional shelter for families, located in Santa Monica. Adopting an apartment involves fundraising and then shopping for, furnishing and decorating an apartment for a formerly homeless family. We are so excited by the possibility of being a force of positive change in the lives of kids just like us and we are so excited to get started.
Upward Bound House (www.upwardboundhouse.org) is a community-based, social service agency headquartered in Santa Monica, California. They are a federally recognized 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in 1991 with the mission to help mitigate the affordable housing crisis on the Westside of Los Angeles County and specifically, its impact on homeless families with minor children and very low-income seniors.
We would be so grateful for your support in helping us create a home for a family that needs one. Thank you for considering us!
With sincere thanks,
