BENEFITING: VISION TO LEARN
EVENT DATE: May 27, 2013
Girl Scout Troop 8675 is raising funds for Vision to Learn. Their goal is to provide TWO HUNDRED students with a new pair of glasses.
These Girl Scout Juniors have spent the last few months interviewing community leaders and conducting needs assessments, and researching organizations doing good work in their community. When it came time to choose a service project for their Bronze Award, the Troop chose Vision to Learn because the girls were inspired by its mission. Vision to Learn provides free eye exams and glasses for elementary school children in low-income communities throughout California.
The girls decided to raise funds by operating a traditional lemonade stand on Memorial Day. In addition, they decided to also hold a "virtual lemonade stand" to incorporate online fundraising technology and social media to their efforts.
The tier of donations are as follows:
$20.00 Brings a pair of glasses to one student
$100.00 Brings an eye exam and glasses to one student
$250.00 Brings 10 eye glass frames
$500.00 Brings eye exams and glasses to five students
$1,000.00 Brings eye exams and glasses to ten students
The Vision to Learn tag line is: "If you can’t see, you can’t learn."
Troop 8675 would like to encourage you to "purchase a cup of virtual lemonade" and help a child receive a pair of glasses and a better view to learn and a brighter future.
