Troy Becker's Return to Germany For More Spinal Surgery
Organized by: Aaron Peaster
Welcome to Troy Becker's Fundraiser. This fundraiser is for Troy's back and neck surgery. He had 3 levels in his neck and 1 level in his back replace in Germany on December 9 of 2014. He had deterioration in his neck and back and so they performed Artificial disc replacement which is a surgical procedure in which a diseased or damaged inter-vertebral disc of the spinal column is replaced with an artificial, man-made device. An artificial disc may be used to replace a disc in either the lumbar spine (lower back) or cervical spine (neck). This is a very expensive surgery not covered by insurance outside the United States. After surgery Troy returned home feeling much better and once again went back to work making a living for his wife and 4 children. About the middle of April of this year he noticed a lump on the left side of his neck. It started to get larger as time went on so on May 4 Troy went to his family doctor and had blood work done thinking his thyroid was swelling. The blood work came back good and they sent him in for an ultrasound. The ultrasound showed that the mass was outside the thyroid gland pushing his trachea forward so they ordered a CT scan and that is when they saw something going on back by his neck implants that were put in back in Dec. of 2014 in Germany. The doctors promptly hospitalized Troy and started doing more testing thinking it was really bad bone infection. All the lab results kept coming back clear and yet what was this mass in his neck. Troy was released from the hospital without knowing really what was in his going on. The doctors came to him with several options. They could go in and remove the 3 disc replacements and that would leave a gap of about 3.5 to 4 inches in his neck and he would have to have a total front and back neck fusion leaving his neck completely immobile. He could also wait but one major risk involved with waiting is his trachea. Its should be sitting about 7mm in front of spine and due to fluid pocket and inflammation its pushed out to about 26mm. The doctor is shocked that he isnt having any difficulty breathing!!!! He also made it very clear it could turn to infection anytime, and last option that the doctors gave him was to return to Germany and see what they could do for him. The Germans see this as infection but they are unclear as to why. So he and his wife have bought tickets and on June 2 they will do surgery to clean out infection. If any of the hardware needs to come out that will be done on June 7. The doctor wants them to stay for 6 weeks to watch for infection and make sure everything is healing up right. So we would like to help Troy with this major undertaking. He obviously wont be working for at least 6 weeks and he will accumulate some very large medical bills. Any donations that you can give will help releave the stress for him and his family. Thank-you all so much!
