BENEFITING: TUG MCGRAW FOUNDATION
ORGANIZER: TUG MCGRAW FOUNDATION
EVENT DATE: Nov 06, 2016
It's hard to believe, but this coming November will mark 10 YEARS since my last brain surgery. Crazy! Has it been and is it still challenging on a daily basis? Absolutely. But do I feel extremely fortunate? You better believe it, and I want to pay it forward any way I can.
To mark this anniversary, I have decided to embark on one of the most challenging physical adventures (for me) since my brain tumor journey. On Nov. 6, I plan to complete the New York City Marathon AND raise AT LEAST $2500 for the cause through TheTug McGraw Foundation.
It's going to be tough, but for those who know me, I'm not afraid of a little (ok, maybe a lot of) pain, fatigue, and asking for your help with a cause intimately close to my heart.
*Birthday goal, of course, since the body isn't what it used to be :) I’ll be 48 this coming Wed, 6/15, and a DONATION would be the best gift ever!!!
*10 year anniversary being 'mostly' tumor free (a little remains, but it's been quiet, per my annual MRIs).
*NY is on every marathoner's bucket list; I was entered to do it in 2004, the year I was diagnosed and 1 week after my first surgery; didn’t quite make it to the start.
*it's the most expensive race I haven't completed; I paid my deferred entry for close to 6 years straight and then gave it up.
*to celebrate Kathy Miller, Cassidy Sidhu, Jim Yanko, Sharan Singh and Cecilia Quizon to name just a very few!
*to honor the many I met during my journey who did not survive the fight (Cindy Parks, I think of you every single day and what I learned from you in our short time together)
*Accomplish my personal goal of completing 5 full 'officials' marathons
*Raise funds for research and support with an organization which shares my mantra "Ya Gotta Believe", as well as it's findings and resources with the community.
*Why $5,000? $1000 for each marathon completed and double the minimum required amount of $2500.
The marathon is 21 weeks away, and my training has begun. I will be updating my progress regularly with words, photos and even videos. Although I hope to run the entire event, but if I wind up walking some, that’s ok. My goal is to get to the finish with a smile and joy in my heart, both for the physical accomplishment in addition to meeting or exceeding my goal for the funds so desperately needed.
I hope you can help. Every single dollar makes a difference. And in today’s social media age, please go crazy and spread the word. tweet, share, text, email, etc.
Thank you for your consideration!!!
Have a spectacular Sunday, and remember to CHOOSE HAPPY!!
