Tuition and Living Expenses for Undocument Student
Organized by: Olga Kuchins
Dear friends and family, when I started law school, I became friends with an incredible person. Her story touched me to the core. She is an undocumented student (brought to the U.S. when she was 2 years old), who is beating the odds by obtaining a legal education at UC Hastings College of the Law. She is one of only two undocumented students at Hastings. In addition to the challenges she had to overcome to remain in the U.S. and get into law school, she continues to face financial stress, which is hampering her ability to help her farm workers family attain the American dream. Unlike permanent residents and U.S. citizens, she is not able to get governmental financial aid to finance her legal education. Instead, she has to rely on high-interest private loans that only cover a potion of her law school tuition and living expenses. If you knew this girl, you too would not be able to sit idly by. Please, please let's pool as much of our resources as possible to help her so that she can focus on finishing law school to become the first lawyer in her family. Every dollar helps! P.S. I am keeping my friend’s identity confidential because of the stigma surrounding undocumented students. Thank you for your generosity and compassion!
