Tumbleweed's Leg Amputation Fundraiser
Organized by: Jenni Vey
Hi, everyone! In February, we adopted an amazing husky/ german shepard puppy named Tumbleweed! He was born to a breeder who stepped on his back, fracturing his spine & leaving him partially paralyzed. He was left to drag his hind legs for 3 months, until they had little remaining skin, before finally being surrendered to a shelter. When his drag wounds were mostly healed, he was placed for adoption. He remained another 3 months. After briefly fostering him in January, we fell in love & made his adoption final on Valentine's Day. His long term mobility prognosis was still unknown. He suffers from large pressure wounds in one hind leg, as he gets bigger & heavier, but he has no signs of feeling in that limb. We treat & bandage the wounds daily. Last Saturday, that leg presented with severe edema that turned out to be from an aggressive infection. Even after quickly receiving a broad spectrum antibiotic, the resulting connective tissue damage has left him with a dying leg that is at great risk for re-infection. Amputation is his only option, but the shelter has pulled his medical sponsorship. They are willing to fund his treatment if he is surrendered, which is our very last resort. He's been through enough & he deserves a family if anyone ever has. Instead, we are hoping to raise the money for his amputation ourselves. His surgery is tentatively scheduled for Thursday, April 28th. If you do consider donating, you will be helping Tumbleweed remain in his forever home & be free of a leg that is beyond repair. Thank you so much for your consideration!!
