Dear Friends & Family:
I am very excited to be participating in the 2016 Tunnel to Towers 5K Run & Walk in New York City on September 25, 2016. This event pays homage to all those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001 and supports our first responders and military personnel who make extraordinary sacrifices in the line of duty.
As you may know, the event honors Stephen Siller, a firefighter and the uncle of one of our close friends. On the morning of 9/11, Stephen strapped 60 lbs. of gear to his back and raced on foot through the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel to the Twin Towers, where he gave up his life while saving others. Retracing Stephen’s last footsteps has become symbolic of the “let us do good” attitude of all participants.
I am not one to ask friends and family for money but I would really appreciate it if you would consider making a donation to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation. I can't promise an impressive finish time (my running days are well behind me!) but your support would mean a lot and your donation will go to a great cause. Proceeds raised from the event will be used by the Foundation to support programs which honor our first responders and military personnel who make extraordinary sacrifices in the line of duty, including the Building for America’s Bravest program.
The Building for America's Bravest program builds smart homes for members of the U.S. Armed Services who have suffered catastrophic combat injuries, such as Quadruple amputation, Triple amputation, Quadriplegia, Paraplegia and Double leg amputation above the knees (among others), as a result of their service in Operation Enduring Freedom or Operation Iraqi Freedom. Each smart home is custom designed to address the unique needs of each individual. Energy efficient, automated and easily accessible—these homes use “adaptive technology” to help our most severely injured heroes live better, more independent lives.
