Turning the Tables will food service/culinary training with supportive services designed to help underserved and at-risk veterans overcome barriers to obtaining and sustaining meaningful employment. Turning the Tables will do this through our Culinary Cornerstones Training Program which goes beyond traditional workforce development programs, offering intensive soft skills development through life skills classes, group processing, individual counseling and a weekly participant assistance team meeting for early identification of barriers to employment. In addition, Turning the Tables will provide training and education to food service employers to help them understand the challenges of veterans who live in poverty, suffer from trauma, are overcoming substance abuse disorders, and/or are reintegrating into society after military service.
Bringing the “Dining with Dignity” restaurant-service model to the Kansas City Community Kitchen, ECS and the Culinary Cornerstones Training Program have been featured on the Kansas City Star, Upworthy, The Huffington Post, UK-based Global Citizen, Christian Science Monitor, CBS Hidden Heroes and NBC Nightly News. Coverage of ECS’ innovate approach to address food insecurity (hunger) has been syndicated across the US, China and Canada, featured in the official magazine of Philippines’ Airline and viewed nearly 60 Million times through a viral NowThis Media video.
