Friends & Family,
I hope this new year finds you sano y feliz (healthy and happy). I am writing to you on my 30th birthday hoping you will celebrate with me as I launch a fundraiser for HHI!
This past November I was in the Dominican Republic for the first time in six years for some big happenings - a seaside event planned by our new Fundraising Advisory Committee, the launch of our World Diabetes Foundation initiative with the Ministry of Health, and our first Board of Directors meeting held locally in Puerto Plata.
I am humbled and immensely proud of what HHI has accomplished in these past years, including:
- The growth of our Sano y Feliz Program, a partnership between 14 new communities across the municipality and new Community Health Workers to expand on our programs geared towards healthy living, cooking, and exercise
- Our Chronic Disease Program has integrated our model of care into the local hospital in Montellano, with our American volunteer doctors working side-by-side with local Dominican doctors in a new vision for sustainable delivery of care to HHI's patients
- The World Diabetes Foundation Grant and Initiative partners us with the Ministry of Health to train front-line doctors, and assess and streamline the supply chain for essential diabetes medications
- Our staff and partnerships have expanded, led by our Executive Director, Elizabeth Geier, and with a local office filled with 10 staff members - Dominican, Haitian, and international - as well as our growing team of Community Health Workers.
Many of you have supported HHI from the very beginning, and I am tremendously thankful to be able to share with you the progress we have made.
Part of my role on the Board of Directors and as a co-founder, is to help HHI's staff realize our programs and their potential, through guidance and fundraising. As I turn 30 years old, I would like to ask you to celebrate with me as I start this month long fundraiser, where I hope to raise $3,000 for HHI and the communities we serve.
Your support means the world to me.
