THE DUKE AND DUCHESS OF CAMBRIDGE TO ATTEND
LAUNCH OF TUSK’S US PATRONS CIRCLE
London, June 15, 2011. St James’s Palace has today announced Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will be attending a private reception to support the launch of Tusk’s US Patrons Circle on the morning of Sunday 10th July, during their first official visit to the United States.
Tusk is an African conservation charity that was founded in 1990. It currently supports 45 conservation programmes across 17 countries in Africa.
The Duke of Cambridge, who has a keen interest in the environment and a passion for Africa, became the charity's Patron in 2005.
Tusk is hosting the private event, sponsored by Land Rover and Dom Perignon, in Los Angeles in order to highlight its conservation and community development work in Africa to a wider American audience, as well as to launch its US Patrons Circle. During the reception, The Duke and Duchess will have the opportunity to meet phlianthropists who are supporting the work of the charity.
Charles Mayhew, founder and CEO of Tusk said: “We are thrilled The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have found time within their busy schedule to meet some of our key donors and help the charity launch this important initiative in the States. The demands on our funds increase daily and having such a committed Patron is vital to the charity’s well being.”
In 2010, the Prince undertook a historic tour of Southern Africa with his brother, Prince Harry, during which they visited a number of Tusk sponsored conservation and environmental education initiatives in Botswana. Since becoming Royal Patron of the organisation, The Duke has attended a number of the Charity’s events in the UK. The reception in Los Angeles will be the first time the Royal couple have jointly attended a Tusk event.
Meredith Ogilvie-Thompson, Executive Director of Tusk USA said, "I am most grateful to Their Royal Highnesses. This is a wonderful occasion to unite our US Patrons with Tusk's wider circle, to thank all of our supporters for their amazing generosity, and to highlight the extraordinary work of the charity."
