The high school youth of Tanque Verde Lutheran Church in Tucson, AZ, have committed to attending a five-day conference and service project in support of the City of Detroit. For that reason, we are striving to help them raise the funds to make this trip.
Each participant has been asked to personally pay the conference registration fee of $325. Beyond that, monies raised through fundraising will go toward airfare, ground transportation, and food expenses. These expenses are estimated to cost approximately $1600 per person, and we hope to help assist more than 15 teens!
The following information regarding this conference and service project was taken from the ELCA Youth Gathering website…
The "ELCA Youth Gathering: Rise Up Together" is about faith formation, worship, study, fellowship, service and play. It is an opportunity for our youth to "rise up" and engage with peers from across the United States and the world who share a common commitment and faith in Christ. It is an opportunity for them to be inspired, encouraged, and sent out to do God’s work in our world.
The next Gathering will be held July 15-19, 2015, in Detroit, MI. Between Wednesday and Sunday, participants will rotate through a variety of service-learning experiences in the surrounding community. They will explore and strengthen their faith by studying God’s word, serving their neighbor, sharing worship and communion, participating in lively faith discussions and broadening their knowledge of God’s wonderfully diverse world.
Please help us help our youth energize their faith and discover their call to serve in the world — locally and globally. Please help us help them fulfill their baptismal promises to:
• Live among God’s faithful people,
• Hear the word of God and share in the Lord’s supper,
• Proclaim the good news of God in Christ through words and deed,
• Serve all people, following the example of Jesus,
• Strive for justice and peace in all the earth.
Thank you for your consideration!
