BENEFITING: THE WARFORD FOUNDATION INC
Let me introduce you to our 501c3 non-profit organization. The Warford Foundation, Inc. is a non-profit organization registered in the State of Maryland; it was founded by Ms. Parthenia Warford who served over 20 years in the US military. The Warford Foundation, Inc assists military widows and single mothers through financial assistance while they pursue successful completion of nursing programs. Last year, Parthenia created the BeautyBrainsBelief Mentoring Program that is designed to mentor all families led by single mothers and military widows within the DC Metro Area. Annually, we also have a BeautyBrainsBelief Conference for both the single mothers and their children; we guide them through creating a budget, saving/investing money for themselves and their children, eating and cooking healthy foods, and single motherhood advice/assistance. We will help them with whatever need through partnerships with organizations that are committed to helping us improve their lives and place them on paths suited for them. We want to ensure that these families will be able to live above poverty level in their respective states. In keeping with eating and cooking healthy foods, we are planning to have our single mother families assist with creating an organic community garden in Parthenia’s ¾ acre backyard. We believe that when children grow vegetables and are a part of the gardening process, they are more likely to eat vegetables. By combining sessions of tending the garden with cooking lessons, the families will be able to develop critical skills as well as confidence in themselves. As the vegetables become available, the families will be able to harvest them and integrate them into healthy meal plans taught by our personal chef. Through the help of volunteers, staff and board members of The Warford Foundation, Inc we have completed three (3) phases of the garden in less than a month. As we proceed into Phase 4 (completion of planting and maintenance of existing plants), we have learned that we need professional gardeners to assist us making this a success. Additionally, a greenhouse would make it much easier for Parthenia to take care of the plants because of her disabilities that restrict her from bending, squatting, standing for long periods of time. By hiring a professional to plant fruit, herbs, vegetables, create the flower beds, fruit trees, patio, grill area for single mom families to enjoy. We also plan to allow military widow families to plant flower bed, fruit trees, and dedicate to their fallen hero.
