John Huddle wrote -When you run with Team World Vision, you are running to save the lives of children in Africa who have NO ACCESS to clean water. My name is John, and I am the Team World Vision coordinator for Los Angeles and Southern Cal. Right now, a movement is taking place. Our runners, walkers and joggers understand water and are passionate about providing clean water for Uganda, Kenya, Somalia, Rwanda, and other regions. I just returned from Uganda and have seen with my own eyes the amazing transformation clean water provides to these villages.
Every year, Americans spend 450 billion every Christmas on Christmas but only 20 billion a year would eliminate the clean water crisis, which, according to one of the village counsels I met with has done the following, just after two months:
- eliminated rape cases among young boys and girls gathering water (because the six mile route to water has been eliminated)
- no recorded kidnappings in two months!
- no drownings (at the water site, which I visited - what a nightmare)
- no new cases of malaria
- no new cases of guinea worm, a parasite which enters the body, lives in the leg and grows to three feet long before emerging from a wound in the leg
Runners join our team for free. We train them you for free - no joke -and and we set you up with a simple web page where friends, family and co-workers can donate for clean water.
You can trust World Vision. Right now, 87 cents of every dollar donated actually makes it to the field - to address the actual need. $50 donated through Team World Vision provides one child water for LIFE. Monies donated will fund the fight against HIV/AIDS, schools for children and job development.
